Fit touch rugby

Alexandria Rugby FIT Touch rugby is a coed program for children starting in the last year of preschool through 14 years old and is a great introduction to the basics of rugby.

Each age level adds skills, starting with passing behind you, staying behind the ball carrier, building to uncontested scrums and line-outs.

We are part of Rugby Virginia and play teams from Springfield, Loudoun, Great Falls, Vienna, Richmond and Western Suburbs (Manassas and western Fairfax).

Alexandria Rugby takes exceptional pride in being an inclusive organization that wants children to have fun, participate in physical activity, learn to be respectful and be part of a team.

There are no tryouts or elite teams; everybody plays and we have learned that we can have better competition and more fun by mixing different levels of experience and talent on a team.

U12 and U14 Tackle Rugby

Alexandria Rugby has coed tackle rugby programs for U14 and U12 boys and girls. No experience is necessary.

Safety:

The health and safety of all participants is our foremost priority. All coaches receive concussion awareness training from USA Rugby, and all players will undergo standard concussion screening protocol in all cases of head injury at training sessions or in matches by properly trained Alexandria Rugby staff.
The players also go through intensive training to learn how to tackle properly and safely. The increased awareness of concussions in sports has been a welcomed development and one of them is football teams are increasingly looking to rugby coaches to teach "rugby" tackling, which has been recognized as a safer form of tackling.
All players are also expected to receive a pre-season sports physical from a qualified medical professional. Parents are expected to share the results of the physical with the coaches and administrators of the team.

High School Boys and Girls

Our high school age program is held during the summer. Both programs play 7s rugby. We do not have a spring program as that would compete with existing programs at Alexandria City High School, Fort Hunt, Gonzaga College High School and others. If you are interested in playing high school rugby in the spring we’d be happy to connect you with one of the great programs in the area.
